Female Chemist
Around the 1980’s a twelve year old girl by the name of Rachel Zimmerman developed something that greatly and successfully helped people who have difficulty communicating. She created a software program using symbols that enable non speaking people such as those with severe physical disabilities like cerebral palsy to communicate. The program that Rachel came up with his known as a Blissymbol Printer. Users can communicate by pointing and touching various symbols on a board that is touch screen. When the user touches the screen the symbols translate into a written language.
I decided to write about Rachel Zimmerman because she not only invented something at the age of twelve but came up with something that could help everyone around the world. The Blissymbol Printer has greatly impacted multiple people and I hope to one day impact people in a way that she has.

Scientist
Thomas Alva Edison comes to mind when I think of science and important scientist. I always think of this man because where ever you go there are lights lighting up the place around you and I cant imagine were we would be today with a light bulb. I admire him because he spent years working on figuring out how to conduct electricity threw the bulb and with patience finally figured it out. Today the light bulb is used around the world every day constantly in use.

2 Goals
Two goals that I would like to incorporate into my everyday school life would be one to turn in all of my homework in on time completed. I do this well but tend to forget an assignment now and then which really affects my grade. The second goal that I want to become an everyday think in my life is studying for quiz’s and tests even if I feel like I know all of the information. I think that I would benefit from this and that these two things would really help me improve in school and everyday life.

E-Portfolio
1. Why is this exhibit a good choice for placement in your e-portfolio?
During the hero’s project, I was able to use a cool website to design a super hero which worked on creativity as well as a poster. By creating the poster I was able to use Microsoft word, word art and other things to help create images for my poster. I also learned how to place things in different ways and order to draw more attention to a certain area of the poster. Along side the creative part of this project I was also able to really learn about a specific element in my case mercury and find out interesting facts about my element as well as learn other things about all elements.
If I had the chance to re due this activity I probably would have spent more time on the poster and put more effort into the what materials I used like instead of taping everything down I think it would have been better if I glued it.
5. What change(s) in attitude or behavior helped you to meet the challenge?
Unlike the timeline project I decided not to procrastinate and work on it throughout the week so I wouldn’t have to rush and do it all on one night. This was a good choice I had plenty of time to do the project and chanced a few things throughout the week. If I had procrastinated I wouldn’t have been able to correct and change a few things and probably would have left something out like my partner and I did on the timeline.

2. What did you find most interesting about this exhibit activity and why?
The thing I found most interesting about this exhibit was how different elements reacted and fused with other elements to create and change things. I also thought it was very interesting to see that some elements didn’t go well with other elements and to see why they didn’t react well or at all with another element.
3. In what way(s) did you find this exhibit a challenge to complete?
One of the main challenges I found during this project was the creative part. I’m not very creative at all and it was hard to try and make my poster colorful and creative and good looking. I also found that I had to rely on myself and could split up the work with a partner which made it more time consuming.
4. If you were to do this activity again what changes would you make and why?If I had the chance to re due this activity I probably would have spent more time on the poster and put more effort into the what materials I used like instead of taping everything down I think it would have been better if I glued it.

6. What grade would you give yourself for these reflections, from “1” to “4”, where “4” is the best? (Refer to the E-Portfolio Reflection Rubric.)Give specific evidence explaining why you gave yourself that grade.
I would give myself a 4 because all of my answers are well developed and have a lot of great information that is required in the rubric. I also think I desire this grade because my answers to the questions aren’t something that most people would write and are well thought out honest answers.

If you were an element what would it be like?
If I was an element I would be a Metal. I believe I would be a metal because I get along and can interact with almost everyone like a metal does with other elements. I think that some of the characteristics that my element would have would be interacts well with other elements, solid, and a brighter color because I’m not boring or dual.

What I learned about myself in Chemistry
In Chemistry class I have learned how to better prepare myself for quiz’s and tests. One of the things that I’ve had to do that I think has helped is reviewing the materials every other day for about 10-15 minutes. Another thing that I’ve learned is that I enjoy doing labs and learning new things through the labs. I’ve also learned that I need to take better notes that consist of less words but the same amount of information. Lastly I believe that by doing these things consistently I will be more successful and learn more throughout the year in Chemistry class.
